Recall information in a POH/AFM

What this means for your checkride

The Airplane Flight Manual and Pilot's Operating Handbook are documents developed by the airplane manufacturer and approved by the FAA, and are specific to a particular make and model. A generic manual that does not indicate a specific aircraft registration and serial number is limited to general study purposes only.

Pilots must use the aircraft-specific approved manual for limitations and performance, so the FAA tests what makes a manual authoritative.

The common trap

A general or sample handbook is for study only; operating limitations must come from the manual for that specific aircraft by registration and serial number.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
