Recall regulations - sUAS waivers

What this means for your checkride

Part 107's operating rules can be waived if the applicant shows the FAA the operation can be conducted safely under the terms of a certificate of waiver. Waivable provisions include flight over people, beyond visual line of sight, and operating multiple aircraft. Some provisions, such as carrying hazardous material, cannot be waived.

Waivers allow expanded operations with mitigations, so the FAA tests what can be waived and the burden to prove safety.

The common trap

Operators think a waiver is a formality. You must demonstrate specific mitigations that make the operation as safe as the rule intends, and some provisions cannot be waived at all.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
