Official FAA learning statement

Recall regulations - hazardous operations

What this means for your checkride

Part 107 prohibits hazardous operation: you may not operate a small unmanned aircraft carelessly or recklessly, drop an object in a way that creates a hazard, or operate from a moving vehicle except over sparsely populated areas. You also may not operate under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Careless or reckless drone flying endangers people and property, so the FAA tests the prohibited hazardous operations.

The common trap

Operators think anything not explicitly banned is allowed. The careless-or-reckless rule is a catch-all; an operation that endangers people or property is prohibited even if no specific rule names it.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
