Official FAA learning statement

Recall regulations - small UAS operation over humans

What this means for your checkride

Part 107 restricts flight over human beings who are not directly participating and not under cover. Operations over people are allowed only under the category rules, based on the aircraft's injury risk and any required labeling, or under a waiver. The goal is to protect uninvolved people from a falling or errant drone.

Flying over people is a real injury risk, so the FAA tests when operations over humans are permitted.

The common trap

Operators think brief overflight of a crowd is fine. It is prohibited unless the aircraft meets an operations-over-people category or you hold a waiver.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
