Official FAA learning statement

Recall regulations - small UAS aircraft registration / display of registration

What this means for your checkride

A small unmanned aircraft flown under Part 107 must be registered with the FAA, and the registration or its unique identifier must be marked on the aircraft so it is readable without tools. The remote pilot carries proof of registration and makes it available on request.

Unregistered or unmarked drones are illegal to fly, so the FAA tests the registration and marking requirements.

The common trap

Operators think a small drone is exempt from registration. Under Part 107 every small UAS must be registered and display its registration number externally.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
