Recall student evaluation - learning process

What this means for your checkride

Evaluating a student is continuous, not just a final test. Throughout training the instructor assesses whether learning objectives are met, uses that to adjust the lesson, and confirms the student has moved from rote toward correlation. Effective assessment is objective, flexible, comprehensive, and constructive.

Assessment guides instruction and confirms readiness, so the FAA tests the purpose and characteristics of evaluating a student's learning.

The common trap

Instructors treat evaluation as pass/fail at the end. It is an ongoing tool: you assess, diagnose the gap, and adjust the teaching, not just grade the outcome.

Before your checkride (14 CFR 61.39)

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
