Official FAA learning statement

Recall regulations - qualifications / duty time

What this means for your checkride

Part 121 sets flight time limitations and rest requirements that a certificate holder may not exceed when scheduling a crewmember. In domestic operations, scheduled flight time is capped, and a scheduled rest period must be provided in the 24 consecutive hours preceding the completion of a flight segment. The required rest increases with the amount of scheduled flight time, protecting crew readiness and qualification to fly.

Crews must understand that duty and rest limits, not just certificates and checks, govern whether they are qualified to accept an assignment.

The common trap

A crewmember cannot legally accept an assignment merely because certificates are current; the flight time and rest limits must also be met.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
