Official FAA learning statement

Recall regulations - knowledge and skill test checks

What this means for your checkride

Each applicant for a mechanic certificate or rating must pass a written knowledge test appropriate to the rating sought, and must pass each section before taking the oral and practical tests. The applicant must also pass an oral and practical skill test by demonstrating satisfactory understanding of the knowledge, risk management, and skill elements. The minimum passing grade for each test given under Part 65 is 70 percent.

Certification requires demonstrated knowledge and skill, and applicants should know the sequence of tests and the passing standard.

Where to study it

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
