Recall regulations - instructor requirements / responsibilities

What this means for your checkride

A flight instructor may only train and endorse within the ratings on their own certificate, must sign the required endorsements accurately, and is responsible for the students they solo and recommend. A flight instructor certificate is valid for 24 calendar months and is renewed by activity, a refresher course, or examination.

The instructor's authority and duties protect training quality, so the FAA tests instructor limitations, endorsements, and renewal.

The common trap

New instructors think any endorsement is theirs to give. You may only instruct and endorse for privileges you hold, and improper or unearned endorsements are a serious violation.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
