What this means for your checkride

Part 121 requires a flight crewmember holding a current flight engineer certificate on any airplane type certificated before January 2, 1964 that has a maximum certificated takeoff weight of more than 80,000 pounds. For each airplane type certificated after January 1, 1964, whether a flight engineer is required is determined under the type certification requirements. The flight engineer serves as a required flight crewmember when the aircraft's type certification calls for the position.

Crews must know when a certificated flight engineer is a required crewmember on transport airplanes.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
