PLT387: Change of Address

What code PLT387 covers, why the FAA tests it, and how to study Change of Address before your checkride.

Official FAA learning statement

Recall regulations - change of address

What this means for your checkride

A certificate holder who changes their permanent mailing address must notify the FAA Airman Certification Branch in writing within 30 days. After 30 days without reporting the new address, the holder may not exercise the privileges of the certificate.

Keeping the FAA's records current is a certificate condition, so the FAA tests the 30-day notification requirement.

The common trap

Pilots think an address change has no deadline. Fail to report it within 30 days and you cannot legally exercise your certificate until you do.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
