Official FAA learning statement

Recall operations manual - transportation of prisoner

What this means for your checkride

An aircraft operator may carry a prisoner only in accordance with the procedures in its approved security program and the rule on carriage of prisoners under the control of armed law enforcement officers. The escorting armed law enforcement officer must coordinate with the operator in advance, and the detailed handling procedures are set out in the security program.

Carrying a person in custody on a passenger flight is tightly controlled for safety and security, so the FAA tests that a prisoner is carried only under the required coordination and procedures.

The common trap

A prisoner in custody is not handled like an ordinary passenger; carriage requires advance coordination with an armed law enforcement escort and compliance with the operator's security program.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
