PLT324: Oil System
What code PLT324 covers, why the FAA tests it, and how to study Oil System before your checkride.
Recall oil system - types / components / functions / oil specifications
What this means for your checkride
The oil system lubricates, cools, cleans, and seals the engine's moving parts. It covers the oil grades and specifications, the pump and filter, and the temperature and pressure gauges that tell you the system is working. Low pressure with rising temperature is a classic sign of a developing problem.
Oil is the engine's lifeblood, so the FAA tests whether you understand its functions, the correct grade, and how to read the gauges as an early warning of failure.
Pilots watch only oil pressure. Temperature and pressure have to be read together: high temperature with falling pressure points to a loss of oil or a failing pump, which needs an immediate response.
Where to study it
A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
