PLT308: Laws of Learning
What code PLT308 covers, why the FAA tests it, and how to study Laws of Learning before your checkride.
Recall learning process - laws of learning elements
What this means for your checkride
The laws of learning describe how people learn: readiness, exercise, effect, primacy, intensity, and recency. For example, effect says learning is stronger when it is accompanied by a pleasant feeling, and primacy says what is learned first is learned best, so it should be taught correctly the first time.
These laws guide effective teaching, so the FAA tests the laws and how each applies to instruction.
Instructors let a student practice an error, planning to fix it later. Primacy means the first, incorrect way is learned strongly and is far harder to unlearn than to teach correctly the first time.
Where to study it
A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
