Recall information in the certificate holder’s manual

What this means for your checkride

Each air carrier must prepare and keep current a manual for the use and guidance of flight, ground, and management personnel in conducting its operations. It contains the operating procedures, policies, and information the personnel need, and it must be accepted or approved by the FAA and available to the crews who use it.

The manual is how an air carrier standardizes its operation, so the FAA tests what it must contain and the duty to keep it current and available.

The common trap

The manual is not optional guidance; personnel are required to follow it, and portions of it carry the same force as if the procedures were in the regulations.

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
