Recall FOI techniques - responsibilities

What this means for your checkride

An instructor's responsibilities include helping students learn, providing adequate instruction, demanding adequate standards of performance, emphasizing the positive, and ensuring aviation safety. Beyond a single lesson, the instructor evaluates student readiness and is accountable for the endorsements they give.

The scope of instructor responsibility affects safety and certification, so the FAA tests these duties and the standards an instructor must uphold.

The common trap

Instructors see the job as teaching maneuvers. The deeper responsibility is producing a safe, capable pilot and only endorsing a student who genuinely meets the standard.

Before your checkride (14 CFR 61.39)

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
