Recall evaluation testing characteristics 6

What this means for your checkride

Effective assessment measures whether learning objectives were met and guides further instruction. Good assessments are objective, comprehensive, and aligned to the standard; oral quizzing, performance evaluation against the ACS, and honest critique each serve a purpose. A useful test is valid, reliable, and usable.

Instructors must judge readiness fairly and usefully, so the FAA tests the characteristics of effective assessment and the types used in training.

The common trap

Instructors treat assessment as only the checkride. Continuous assessment, oral quizzing, and honest critique during training are what actually build competence and readiness.

Before your checkride (14 CFR 61.39)

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
