Interpret information in a Chart Supplements U.S

What this means for your checkride

The Chart Supplement (formerly the Airport/Facility Directory) is a regional book of airport and airspace data: runway details, frequencies, lighting, services, procedures, and special notices. It fills in what a sectional cannot show for each airport.

Preflight planning relies on the Chart Supplement for field specifics, so the FAA tests where to find frequencies, runway data, and remarks for an airport.

The common trap

Pilots assume the sectional carries all the airport detail. Frequencies, fuel, hours, and special procedures live in the Chart Supplement, not on the chart face.

Before your checkride (14 CFR 61.39)

A code on your test report is an area of deficiency. An authorized instructor must review it with you and endorse that review before you take the practical test, and the examiner may revisit it during the oral. Study it until you can explain it out loud, not just recognize the answer.
