Warning Area

Also: W-area

Airspace extending from three nautical miles off the coast that contains activity possibly hazardous to aircraft, over waters where the United States does not have sole jurisdiction.

“A warning area is airspace of defined dimensions, extending from 3 NM outward from the coast of the United States, containing activity that may be hazardous to nonparticipating aircraft.”
