Part 107 Airspace Quick-Check

Before you launch, know whether the airspace needs authorization. Pick a class and see the Part 107 rules in plain English: authorization, LAANC, and the altitude ceiling.

Authorization required before you fly
How to get cleared
ATC authorization required, usually near-instant through LAANC.
Altitude
Up to 400 ft AGL, or the LAANC grid ceiling for that cell.
Good to know
Around medium airline airports. Check the grid before you launch.

These rules apply to Part 107 small unmanned aircraft under 14 CFR 107.41 and 107.51. The 400 ft AGL limit is standard, with an exception for flying within 400 ft of a structure. Always confirm current airspace and grid ceilings in a Part 107 planning app before launch.

The short version

Controlled airspace, Class B, C, D, and the surface area of Class E, requires ATC authorization, which LAANC usually grants in seconds up to a published grid ceiling. Class G, the uncontrolled airspace that covers most of the country at low altitude, needs no authorization. Either way you stay at or below 400 feet AGL, keep the aircraft in sight, and yield to crewed aircraft.

This tool is a study and planning aid. The real ceiling for a given spot comes from the LAANC grid, so always confirm in a Part 107 app before you fly.
