VFR Weather Minimums Visualizer

The cloud clearance and visibility rules are a notorious memorization trap. Pick an airspace class and time of day, and see exactly what you need, drawn out.

Cloud clearance and visibility requirements are set by 14 CFR 91.155. Class G at or below 1,200 ft AGL has a daytime exception; at a few airports, additional rules apply in the traffic pattern at night. Always confirm against the current regulation.

How to remember them

Most controlled airspace below 10,000 feet shares one set of numbers: 3 statute miles, and 500 below, 1,000 above, 2,000 horizontal. Class B is the exception at 3 miles and clear of clouds, because ATC is separating everyone inside it. Above 10,000 feet MSL, where aircraft move fast, the rule jumps to 5 miles and 1,000 / 1,000 / 1 mile.

Class G is the part that trips people up, because it changes with height and time of day. Work through the toggles above until the pattern sticks, then confirm your recall against 14 CFR 91.155.
